I wrote a blogpost about my current approach to building "Indie Small Web" sites. Back to basics.

all your half-finished projects are still experience that contributes directly to your skills and confidence. the dozen half-finished projects are the seeds of the finished one that you could never have handled a decade ago.
Hi everyone! 👋 We still see people on the fediverse recommending OpenOffice, despite it having year-old unfixed security issues: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_OpenOffice#Security – So if you see someone recommending it, please inform them about the risks – but also that there are actively maintained successor projects (like LibreOffice). #foss #OpenSource

Alright folks it is now official: THE KIWIX OFFSPOT IS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AND SHIPS WORLDWIDE
The official retail price is/will be USD 319 (taxes & shipping included) and you can buy it here: https://kiwix.org/en/kiwix-hotspot/
Grab it while supplies last!
As for the technical subtleties 👇
I am an unpaid volunteer who runs five websites and five accounts helping people use Mastodon and the wider Fediverse. These cause bills every month which I pay.
If you want to help these sites & accounts keep going, you can buy me a coffee:
(No registration, choose any amount, all currencies work.)
Alternatively, become a patron:
All support very greatly appreciated! 🙂

Are there any good resources out there for how to help start/grow a community of people looking to break away from #BigTech, and perhaps digital technology in general, with an emphasis on helping non-technical people?
#Solarpunk/#LowTech/#Degrowth is definitely the right destination, but it's hard, I feel, to translate that into some sort of roadmap for people not already technically literate.
How to backup a live gotosocial database
rm /gotosocial/backup.db
sqlite3 /gotosocial/sqlite.db "VACUUM INTO '/gotosocial/backup.db'"
My old 7" tablet can also run #Tusky !!!
I think that my attempt to use it ONLY for reading is actually failing 😬
Hi, I wrote about one of my all-time favorite songs and the person who originally shared it with me.
I'm looking for people who have successfully migrated from SQLite to PostgreSQL for #GotoSocial. I did some tinkering using PgLoader and wasn't able to migrate the schema without dropping default values and indexes.
The next step would be to take the database structure from a clean PostgreSQL installation and migrate just the data using PgLoader, but I haven't attempted that yet.
Please share your experiences :-)
I would like to acquire an eBook reader. I see that the #Kobo readers can connect to nextcloud with app #KoboCloud.
Do you use this solution ?
Any advice for Linux users to purchase the right reader: compatibility with Linux, or Nextcloud or ownCloud (no Dropbox neither GDrive for me), able to read non-drm epub and PDF.
Thanks for you help (RT if you think your followers could help)
tonight a water mains broke and much of east #Berlin (easily a million people or more) had no water for several hours and the only place there was any official information to be found was on fucking Twitter? Come on, how hard is it to put this on the water company's website?
