jump to repliesI would like to acquire an eBook reader. I see that the #Kobo readers can connect to nextcloud with app #KoboCloud.
Do you use this solution ?
Any advice for Linux users to purchase the right reader: compatibility with Linux, or Nextcloud or ownCloud (no Dropbox neither GDrive for me), able to read non-drm epub and PDF.
Thanks for you help (RT if you think your followers could help)
I have found a cheap old 7" Samsung tablet and I've managed to install a custom ROM. it is upgraded from Android 5 to 7.
Not terrible but it removed all bloat preinstalled apps and permitted to install #KOReader from f-droid.This soft is very good to transfer such devices to eBook reader.
I will wait before buying a #kobo

back to top@adele I use Pocketbooks since 2015 (Touch Lux2, now Era PB700).
The linux os of pocketbook is open, and there are a lot of custom apps available like
https://github.com/JuanJakobo/Pocketbook-Nextcloud-Client
where you can directly connect to your nextcloud without any third party service.
There are also other fun tools like:

etc.
@adele I suggest having a look at the Calibre app. I am still using an ancient Amazon Kindle 3 successfully with that app.
@mischnachtreisr I know Calibre. It seems to be The tool. Thx
@adele I use a Kobo Nia and Calibre on Linux Mint. I sync to a pCloud folder. Followed the instructions for KoboCloud and it just worked. I haven't had any problems or complaints in the whole time I've had it; would recommend 😊
@hryggrbyr I know Calibre. It seems to be The tool. Thx
@adele I'm a Kobo Clara 2 user. Have an epub collection dating back to early 2000s when I was reading on a Palm Pilot. I haven't had the time to sort out wireless syncing yet, but Calibre (as frequently suggested here) plays very nicely with the Kobo, which has plenty of storage for my 300ish epub collection. I run the Linux version of Calibre via Crostini (Linux 'VM') on a ChromeBook.
@adele Tons of good resources here if you want to get into the weeds... https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=223
