@adele I identify with this post a lot because over the years I’ve been doing a way with services I don’t like and the only one left right now is signal. I never thought about giving XMPP or Delta chat a shot but I think I’m gonna look into them. Now, is the reason you don’t like Signal that is not decentralized?

@k1nch0 yes, this is the main problem. I can’t use a system depending on a single entity for development, authentication, connection and message transfer. What happens if this entity fails?
XMPP+OMEMO is the good choice for me (I know about security problems with old version of some clients but nowadays almost all xmpp users run secured versions)
I also propose two xmpp server to my contacts so I can easily trust the communication

@adele @cedricdes it was required by law to be implemented in 2025, then it was supposed to be «by demand» and then it fallen into oblivion. Weird, ha?

Now it is hoped to be implemented in 2030

@josephb you can also join this #PixelSocial instance (an anonymous social network inside #DeltaChat) to give your chatlist some content while you convince friends to join Delta Chat and wait to get more contacts:

@adele with #DeltaChat you also have the in-chat mini-apps that are useful just to have tools in your "Saved Messages" chat that have synchronized state across all your devices without depending on a central service, ex. notepads, to-do lists, shopping lists, "authenticator app" codes, Calendar, etc.

also Delta Chat is the only one of those that offer an easy way to migrate from server to server without losing your chats or contacts!

I am using it with my family since years

@adele I am coming from the IRC world, so liked that Discord and Telegram were similar but let me read messages that I missed while not looking at the channel. Usenet newsgroups were like that as well. The only time I've used Teams is at work, I have never used it for personal communications. I like both real time and bulletin board style chatting, with real time during live radio shows and bulletin board the rest of the time.
