Not everyone can or should self-host, but there is a lot of middle ground between self-hosting and putting everything on #AWS.
Federated protocols like #XMPP, #ActivityPub, and #SMTP give you choice.
I'd like recommendations for a Europe-based dynamic DNS provider, please!
I've been with freedns.afraid.org for about eight years, and they've been rock-solid and good value at $60 per year, but it's time to cut my remaining ties with US-based services.
Please boost for reach!
Hello hello, here's bugfix release v0.20.1 of #GoToSocial, aka More Sinister Sloth 😈😈
https://codeberg.org/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/releases/tag/v0.20.1
If you're updating to this version from v0.20.0, it's a very easy update with no db migrations.
If you're updating to this version from a version before v0.20.0, please follow the update instructions from v0.20.0, but replace 0.20.0 with 0.20.1 throughout. Be aware that the update to 0.20.x contains some potentially very long migrations. Please do read the notes carefully!
Thanks for all the bug reports that helped us find and fix stuff <3
Release highlights
- Fix an issue causing duplicate posts to appear in timelines.
- Fix RSS format issue.
- Speed up some queries a little bit (lists in particular, but home timeline a little too).
- Return more sensible HTTP codes from fedi endpoints when things happen that aren't actually errors.
- Add API scope for managing emojis.
Is it a good idea to setup a mail server for smol mailboxes and to open registration for free with invitation links for example?
The goal would be to reduce volume of emails, as #smolweb reduces the size of websites.
Something smol like:
- one common domain name (something in .casa TLD)
- in a French datacenter
- 128 Mb of storage
- 10 Mb max per email (sent or received)
- 10 recipient addresses per email (can't be used for mailing)
- limited sent per hour (no spam)
- IMAP / POP3 / SMTP (over TLS)
- Webmail (for desktop and mobile)
- autodeleted if full for several months (to free space for newcomers)
Are you interested by such a #mailbox ?
Please share this toot to have a good idea of the interest.
"I'm a programmer with a Fediverse account. I spend *most* of my programming hours on this OS:"
Please consider boosting for a more statistically significant result.
If you can read this then I managed to fix the OAuth login to Mastodon in #Dillo
Oh Noooo! 😱
Who wants such an app??
"PicSee is the simplest way in the world, to get all your unseen pics from your friends devices!
It's the World’s First #AI enabled Mutual Photo Sharing app.
Your friends get their photos from you only when they give you yours. Using AI facial recognition, PicSee finds unseen photos of you on friends’ devices and delivers them after a simple one-time, mutual approval."

as foretold for many months, now that v0.20.0 of #GoToSocial is released, we have removed our mirror of the code from Github, and removed all our other archived repositories from there as well
all development has been taking place solely on @Codeberg for months now, we just didn't want to remove our repo from Github immediately when we switched, since people might have been relying on it; so if you hadn't moved whatever mirrors / build systems etc to our codeberg repo yet, you ought to do it

Stop using Big Tech to organize your protests! They're part of the authoritarian surveillance and oppression as well.

https://writes.casa from @adele is such a lovely idea. It’s been out there for just over 1 month. You can submit posts to a weekly theme that are <= 1,000 characters, in English, French, German, Spanish or Portuguese.
I hope more take up the invitation 😃

Rewrote Planify's markdown editor from scratch.
The old one was too bloated for what we actually needed - it was built for long-form writing, not quick task notes. This new version is way more practical.
**Bold**, *italic*, lists, links, `code` - all the essentials without the fluff. Faster, cleaner, and actually fits how people use a task manager.
Sometimes less really is more.
Celebrating 15 Years of F‑Droid!
September 29th marks the anniversary of the open‑source app repository we all love.
Why it matters: F‑Droid’s mission aligns well with CoMaps—both champion Free/Libre Open‑Source Software (FLOSS) and community‑driven innovation.

How to design a GDPR-compliant cookie banner:
- Have a 'reject all' button that is as easy to press as the buttons that grant consent.
- Test your site with no consent for user tracking.
- Realise that all of the tracking bits are unrelated to site functionality.
- Remove them.
- Remove the cookie banner.
