No-AI and solid end-to-end encryption is the new tech hype.
If you don't invest heavily in solid end-to-end encryption, privacy-protective and No-AI features, you will be left behind. People might even laugh at you.
Tell everyone.
I set up a #prosody #xmpp server, and I liked it. I tested both Linux and Android clients. I hit a wall getting people self-registered via #iOS. Self-reg works on #monal, but confuses the users with the default server so they always screw that part up. Even once logged in, I can't really recommend it. #snikket would have been perfect, but it obscures the usernames in group chats so as to be functionally useless. #siskin fails on self-registration, but everything else about it is good.
I'm a Debian user and supporter and have been for longer than many of the folks I follow here on Mastodon have been alive. Yeah, I'm old. Shut up! 😂
Anyway, this blog post by @markpitblado is great and hits on many of the reasons why I've been a Debian user for so many years.

Anyone running @gotosocial know why I might be seeing a lot of posts with images missing and instead messages like this:
> Note from <server>: 1 attachment in this status was not downloaded. Treat the following external link with care...
and in the log, lots of messages like this:
> func=dereferencing.(*Dereferencer).fetchStatusAttachments level=WARN msg="partially loaded attachment: processMediaSafeley: error loading media https://blablabla.social/xyz.jpg: store: error draining data to tmp: context deadline exceeded (Client.Timeout or context cancellation while reading body)"

LibreOffice is FINALLY working on adding Native Markdown support!!
Took them long enough!!
Mastodon API: fixed a regression (introduced in previous version in the "boosts disappear in Tusky" fix) that interrupted timelines.

@adele Someone created a font for the symbols, too. https://www.ctrl.blog/entry/creative-commons-unicode-fallback-font.html
Takes a bit of work to get them working on a page, but they do work.
Unicode characters for Creative Commons symbols
I've just discovered that there are symbols since Unicode 13.0 for CC licences

I like #CLI and #TUI tools. I use them everyday to read my emails, edit code, manage my agenda and todo list, access some websites and gemini capsules, even chat with my local LLM...
I miss these tools when I use my phone. I sometimes use ConnectBot to access them on one of my machines via ssh, but the phone keyboard and the screen size don't give me the same satisfaction.
Have you tried to use an external #keyboard with your Android phone to play with CLI/TUI software? Is it a solution? Which keyboard?
I Can't Journal
Every year, around this time, I try to start journaling. And every year, about this time, I fail. But, hey, at least I am consistent.

Satisfying my unscientific curiosity here. Please boost for visibility.
How old are you?
Are thin clients always used in GNU/Linux environment?
I mean dumb X terminals connected to a shared PC in multiuser mode.
Anybody here doing this at home?
I find this clever to have only one big PC, up-to-date and just basic terminals.
I get a lot of shit from family members and even friends for being vegan. And if I'm honest, I'm sick of hearing it. They all tell me that vegans are weak and we're made to eat animals, and I'm not very healthy. I've been vegan and an animal rights advocate for more than 30 years. I really need to stop shrugging off the comments and tell them exactly how I feel about what they say about me.
Well, anyway, today, I started training for my 7th marathon with a 14.3 mile run in high heat and humidity. Not sure how I accomplish anything like this since we vegans are weak and unhealthy. At nearly 59 years old, I'm close to being in the best shape that I have ever been in.
Which lightweight multi-accounts web platform (libre, I can install on my server) to publish #markdown content would you recommend?
I want something that produces simple web page (without js or heavy framework)
Each user has its own site/blog as a subfolder or a subdomain of the instance

I am so passionate about the power and flexibility of classic HTTP 1.1, well-considered HTML, and clean CSS. Learn the fundamental tools of the web, lean on them, and you will be amazed what all is possible.
Back in the day, Twitter used to be really good if I set up a thread to connect freelancers with clients. Let's see if Mastodon can do it.
Clients: if you're looking for freelancers/contractors, get in the comments
Freelancers/contractors: get in the comments
Everyone else: boosts appreciated.
The market is *dead* for freelancers and a big part of that (in my opinion) is fragmentation. Let's get that network effect *back*.
